Silent Pianos

Silent pianos (also known as hybrid pianos), are a fairly recent addition to the options available when looking for a piano.

At their heart, silent pianos are effectively normal acoustic pianos, often based on popular models such as the Yamaha B series and Kawai K series.  However, they employ a clever digital system which can be enabled at the flick of a switch, with little or no noticeable effect on the feel of the piano.  Switching to digital allows the player to practice silently through headphones, or to explore the creative options available on digital pianos, such as different instrument voices and recording functions.

They tend to cost a bit more than the standard acoustic model, but offer the best of both worlds, with real acoustic piano sound one minute, and silent practice through headphones or any of the other advantages of the digital world the next.
