The PB-102 (formerly the PA102) is an excellent choice of intermediate instrument, being responsive, flexible and producing a clear sound with easy projection. This model has the Brögger System™ in the left hand of the flute. This mechanism increases the stability of the keywork on the flute: using non-rotating shafts and back connectors for all the main line keys, the most common left-hand binding keywork and misadjustments are eliminated.
There is a great deal of difference between a factory produced flute, even popular models that feature solid silver headjoints and bodies, and a truly handcrafted model like the Japanese made Miyazawa instruments. The PB102 really is a step into the professional level of instruments, and whilst it does not feature a solid silver head or body, it has the feel, response and tone of a superior instrument. THE BRÖGGER THUMB KEY MECHANISM™
The Brögger Thumb Key Mechanism™ is a pioneering design that eliminates the necessity of flat springs and provides a more secure, comfortable fit in a flutist’s hand. Traditional thumb key mechanisms require flat springs which contact the body tubing of the flute. Whenever the thumb B or Bb is depressed, the flat springs rub on the body tubing causing friction and wear. The innovative Brögger Thumb Key Mechanism™ enables the use of the same springs as on the mainline keys with additional desirable advantages.
