In the modern era Britain has some of the finest makers living, whose work is regularly sought after by soloists and professionals alike. Commercial violin making in England has not had such a strong lineage. The French and Germans dominated the 19th and early 20th Centuries exporting thousands of violins to the UK. A few workshops such as the renowned Liverpool company Rushworth and Draeper made violins. These were often of varying standards but were made and finished in local workshops. The Rushworth workshops, one of the last standing, finally closed in 1939. The workshops of Wessex Violins are the new beginning.
Each instrument is individually labelled and is accompanied by a hand written Certificate of Authenticity, bearing photographs of the instrument.
